What Is Printmaking?

Printmaking is the process of making art by transferring an image from a prepared template, called a matrix, onto another surface like paper or fabric. We use the process of linocuts to create your artistic interpretation which involves carving out a rubber Soft-Kut plate or matrix. Each workshop is created and catered to the artists personal connection with their visual language.

The workshop would consist of 15 participants. As the participants sign up for the workshop online, they will also pre-select one of our many designs to complete during the artistic process.

At the workshop, the artists will receive a 9”x6” Soft-Kut carving plate with the design they previously choose transferred onto it. Participants will be introduced to the safety rules and the carving tools used for the process.  Artists will have some practice time to get the feel of this carving technique.

As the artist becomes comfortable, they can begin the carving portion of the exploration. Artists will be encouraged to create test prints on scrap paper in order to achieve their success in the design. Each artist will have the availability to create 5 final prints on 11’x14’ Strathmore Printmaking paper. No experience is needed; Just an open mind and positive energy.
